CrisisCamp Miami ended with a message of gratitude to the gathered volunteers.
“You were a part of something historical this weekend,” said Patrick Barbanes, a coordinator of the camp. “Thanks for being a part of history.
The volunteers presented their projects at the end of their day. Here is a list of just some of the work done today:
- The Miami Independent Media Center plans to start a Haiti Independent Media Center.
- A group of volunteers is planning on overhauling the We Have, We Need Exchange web Site.
- Volunteers have been making progress on mapping, Translation and iPhone people finder application projects.
- Volunteers have been working to make a database of local volunteer opportunities to provide relief to Haiti.
The camp ended with encouragement to persevere in the crisis camp efforts started today. Volunteers have been encouraged to contribute the Crisis Commons Wiki and other efforts. We hope everyone found today’s event helpful and informative. You can watch the farewell address in the video, which has more about what was accomplished, below.
Suggestions for follow up:
“For every project that was worked on in Miami, a project representative should be in touch with the overall project manager to report on what was accomplished, where those accomplishments have been stored and documented, and what tasks need to be done by someone else. Camp organizers should prepared quick writeup summarizing all project activities, what was created, whether or not there will be more work done locally, either at another camp next weekend or virtually.”
If our project leaders want to write a brief description of what was accomplished in their group and send it to me, or post it here, I will compile them into an overall report on the work.
Most important is the above suggestion that local project leaders be in touch with the national project managers with their info. Most important.
